We see the same avoidable mistakes across first-time buyers. Here are the seven, with fixes.
1. Buying salvage priced as returns
If condition is not stated, assume the worst. Real suppliers grade every load. See the red-flag checklist.
2. Ignoring freight until checkout
Compare delivered prices only. Free-freight listings are the same number; “plus freight” listings are not.
3. Buying a truckload first
Validate with 1–3 pallets, then scale. Semi-scale math is better only when the category already works for you.
4. Sorting slowly
Cash speed = sorting speed. The 48-hour rule: everything into sell-as-new / open-box / bundle / parts within two days of delivery.
5. Signing the delivery receipt blind
Count and inspect BEFORE signing. Noted damage = protected claim; a clean signature = your word against the carrier’s.
6. One sales channel
Every load has tiers; every tier has a best venue. One channel leaves the tails unsold. See the channel guide.
7. Chasing the cheapest pallet on the internet
The cheapest listing from an unvetted seller is usually the most expensive education you will ever buy. Vet first, then price-shop among honest suppliers.
